Shangri-La Hotel at Suite 700
1301 Ocean Ave.
Santa Monica, CA 90401
Friday, July 9th, 6-8pm
Built in 1939, Shangri-La Hotel is a quintessential example of Streamline Moderne architecture; and for decades has been a popular hideaway for guests ranging from presidents, luminaries, movie stars, artists and (most importantly) world travellers
Perched on a high bluff, mere steps from the beach, this timeless Santa Monica boutique hotel has undergone a $30 million redesign, and re-opened its doors in Oct, 2008.
Please join us up at their rooftop bar, called Suite 700. If you get a chance, ride up in their original freight elevator (the right one in the hall). This rooftop bar not only has charming art deco mirrors along the walls, but it also has an open air patio section, which has a spectacular view of Santa Monica. Please note that the bar’s happy hour is observed from 5pm-7pm, where there are $5 drink specials. So if you can, come early to take advantage of that!
Shangri-La Hotel is located on the corner of Arizona Ave. and Ocean Ave. Parking rate at the hotel is $6 Valet for the first 2 hours, then $5 for each additional hour. There are also Public Parking Structure 2 (on 2nd Ave, North of Arizona), Structure 4 (on 2nd Ave., South of Arizona), and Structure 6 (on 2nd Ave, between Arizona and Santa Monica Blvd). The Public Parking Structures are $5 flat rate after 6pm. For public transportation, you can take the Big Blue Bus, Line 1, and get off at Ocean Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd.
Come straight from work or slip into something more Deco—either way, plan to join us! Cocktails in Historic Places™ is open to members and non-members alike and reservations are not required.
