Please join the ADSLA for Cocktails in Historic Places® at Hop Louie Restaurant in Chinatown
One of the most popular landmarks in Chinatown, the 5-story Pagoda is the home of Hop Louie Jade Pagoda Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant, bar and lounge. It was originally opened as The Golden Pagoda Restaurant in 1941 and is now a historical landmark. On the south side of Chinatown’s Central Plaza, standing over 50 feet tall, the pagoda is one of the most recognizable places in Chinatown, and it has been featured in numerous movies and TV shows in the past 70 years.
Come join us in the bar on the first floor or the restaurant on the 2nd floor. The bar on the first floor serves reasonably priced drinks that taste expensive! It features many classic cocktails as well as tropical drinks, amazing Mai Tai’s and huge Scorpion Bowls (watch out, the Scorpions are tasty but strong!). Or come early or stay later if you want to have a wonderful meal, because on the 2nd floor, the building features a restaurant, classically decorated as it originally was, still serving 1950s-style, authentic Cantonese and Mandarin “feast food,” not to be confused with modern Americanized versions of Chinese dishes. The Crab Rangoon and Mongolian Beef are two of the best dishes and the portions are large! (If you want to come early to eat, the 2nd floor opens at 5 pm, and there is also a small bar there).
We think it's a great place to appreciate the history of Chinatown, good food, and tasty drinks. Come straight from work or slip into something more Deco - or Jake Gittes... Either way, plan to join us! (You can also come early if you want to do some Chinatown shopping, as the restaurant is right next to the Central Plaza, which features many fine, historic shops). Cocktails in Historic Places® is open to members and non-members alike and reservations are not required (however, if you want to dine in the restaurant with a group of six or more reservations are recommended – call 213-628-4244). We look forward to seeing you there.
There is metered street parking, and a very affordable parking structure in the Bamboo Plaza, which is one block north of Hop Louie at 988 N Hill St., Los Angeles, CA 90012 (same structure as the Empress Pavillion)
